Diverse learners need diverse seating! As a Public Montessori Educator, I am continuously striving to find ways to modernize the philosophy, environment, and curriculum of Montessori to meet the needs of my students. For the 2017-2018 school year, I am hoping to offer a variety of flexible seating options for the incoming class. Students in our Montessori classroom community have the choice and freedom to choose their work and where they would like to work. Typical choices include at a table, individual desk, or on the floor with a "work rug." Students can also work independently, with a partner, or small group. Expectations and community agreements are clear, thus eliminating the need to ask the teacher for permission in making these choices. Giving the child the freedom and tools to make choices for themselves and learning community is empowering! I believe my students can thrive with a few additional seating choices to choose from!
