The iPads will give my students access to apps they can use to create and view book trailers. The kids respond well to visual media, so the book trailer project is aimed at encouraging students to share what they're reading by creating an enticing montage for their peers. It will act as a fun alternative to reading the synopsis on the book jacket and encourage kids to think about the contents of the book and/or the plot elements of the story.
We hope to use the iPads to record, edit, and produce the book trailers. The cases will ensure our devices are durable and safe in student hands. Once the videos have been made, the kids will create QR codes that link to their videos. The QR codes will be posted in our "readbox" as well as on the inside of the book covers. A student can then use an iPad to scan a code and learn more about a book of interest in just a minute! This project provides students ownership over what they read and helps them with the book selection process during library time.
