My students this year have the unique opportunity to take the PSAT for a chance to be entered into the National Merit Scholarship competition and could, with their excellent scores, earn some money to help themselves fund their college education. Most of their parents don't have the financial means to provide fancy (and expensive) test prep courses or materials, and these prep guides, combined with class instruction, will not only help us better prepare for this challenge but also help us prepare for the bigger challenge--the SAT (which they will take for the first time).
A university education will open many new doors for these kids. They need to know that they, with hard work and dedication, can get themselves there regardless of their socioeconomic status or lack of financial assistance from their parents. One way to do this is by being ready and showing their skills on the SAT!
