When students walk into my classroom, I want them to feel comfortable, confident and excited to learn new material! Now, how would that look walking into a classroom with those uniformed desks with those very uncomfortable chairs? Imagine being an eight/nine-year-old trying to learn about complete sentences and fractions sitting in the same, “hard like brick” seats for eight hours a day? There's no comfort or engagement going on! What my students need is variety, movement and of course engagement. I am looking to incorporate flexible seating options into my classroom. This means I will be able to provide my students with different seating options of where and how they want to sit. In order to keep them comfortable and engaged in learning!
Flexing to success is the way to go! Wobble chairs are chairs that don't stay still! This will allow my students to constantly be moving and getting their "wiggles out" while still paying attention. The balance balls and Bilibos also allow the same movement to let the wiggles out and gives the students different options of where they would like to sit in the classroom. The floor seat cushions and wobble cushions allow the students to work in different areas of the classroom, but instead of sitting on the hard floor or the boring desk chairs- they can use these materials to make it more comfortable and exciting. Studies have shown that allowing students the freedom of where they sit, and the use of flexible seating will "wobble" them straight to success!
