My school has nearly half the population living in poverty (evidenced by free-reduced lunch numbers), approximately 20% English Language Learners, and 100% fabulous kids. They are a great group of students who are eager to learn and create a positive connection with adults. I want to do everything possible to help them reach their fullest potential in their first grade year - combining both life skills (creativity, problem solving, perseverance) and literacy in a fun and engaging manner. Many of these materials will also help develop fine-motor skills, an area that has become increasing lacking in little bodies, but is so essential for success.
