My students are 9th and 10th graders who come from socially disadvantaged and low income immigrant families. Most of them, if not all, have no books at home. They are not used to seeing novels and reading them at home. These students all read below grade level. In addition to needed the required text we also need a school library that includes low level high interest books for young adults.
