These books will benefit my students by having books at their reading levels that interest them. Right now the class is lacking books at many different levels and many are old and beat up. Having books in the classroom that the students can enjoy and utilize to practice the many skills taught in reading workshop. This will allow them to improve their reading levels and instill a love of reading in their life.
These students may not get to leave this zip code, but they could travel the world with each book. I want my students to explore the world and get to open their mind to new discoveries. They will be able to meet new characters and make connections to their life.
The books that the students will get will also be used at times during our read aloud period. I will get the opportunity to model what good readers do. This will benefit my ESL and struggling readers to hear the stories in the manner that they can understand the text. I am looking forward to seeing the growth that these books bring to my classroom.
