Our kindergarten classroom is located in a low income neighborhood in Southern California where 98% of students are Hispanic and speak Spanish as their primary language. My 22 Kindergarten students, all English Language learners, come to school every day bursting at the seams to learn and experience new things. They thrive for the opportunity to develop language and reading skills. Each day when parents drop them off at school I can see in their eyes the need for a better life for their child and the hope they see in me. My hope is that with the right tools and access to books my students will fall in love with reading and provide themselves with a solid foundation for their academic careers.
