Part of being a young adult is taking care of your personal space. The bedroom is a sanctuary, part of keeping it that way is taking care of the bed and keeping it clean. The skills that are needed to do this are not easily taught in a school setting without special furniture to teach them.
By having a mock apartment space, my students will learn and practice of these skills. Stripping the sheets off the bed, washing them and making the bed. These skills are needed by all young adults to maintain a clean private sanctuary. They will also learn how to store items until time for changing sheets.
