Making buttons, learning to fold origami, creating books of student writing, and creating student written and illustrated books are just the first activities that my students want to start. Students can come to the library and do more than choose books to read, they can create their own projects to show their love of reading, learn the creative skills of origami, and even write, illustrate and then comb bind their own stories. Creating lasting projects in a community of makers will let kids know that their work is valuable and important.
Creating a MakerSpace in our school library will help students to show their thinking, their interests, their talents, and their skills in new ways. I am asking for a Button Maker Machine, a Binding Machine for Comb Binding, an Organizer/Storage Unit, a Classpack of scissors, Origami Paper, and Construction Paper. Using these requested materials will allow students to show their skills and create their own arts and crafts in a community of makers.
