Having the students use iPods for virtual reality expeditions will allows our students to connect to their learning in a way that they are unable to outside our school walls. Students will use them to dive deeper into expository text, which is a lower TEK that students miss on STAAR. Providing them with experiences about the topics they are reading will help ensure that what they are learning will stick. If they are reading a passage about a historic figure, it would help them to see where this person influenced society and interact with the person without leaving the classroom. Students will be able to pull from these experiences and apply them throughout their entire educational career. By having these experiences, students will now have background knowledge on a variety of topics which they can apply to a variety of texts.
