My Senior Project is about making the classroom an ADHD-healthy environment. I felt that this idea was very important to me personally as I myself struggle with ADHD. I have felt as though the classroom expectations do not really account for people with ADHD or other mental/cognitive differences in general. The main reason I personally struggle the most in the classroom is that it is extremely difficult to focus on the teaching, which ends up reflecting in my grades. I aim to make the project a way for students to focus easier without it being disruptive.
To accomplish this project, I will:
Provide non-distracting fidget devices (i.e. stress balls, fidget cubes) in every high school classroom and support the use of drawing pads/students bringing their own fidget device.
My hope is that this will inspire and encourage teachers to be more understanding of students with ADHD or other cognitive differences.
