This year as a class I am implementing the Daily 5 into my classroom. This is a framework that helps foster a love of reading and using skills taught within class to help them better understand what they read. During this learning the students are given the opportunity to choose a space in the classroom and to read books of their choice while implementing the strategies taught in class this week.
It is crucial that my students have books that are not only on their level but books that interest them and spaces that are comfortable for them to build stamina. By choosing an area that is appropriate for each individual student they have pride in their reading and are more focused and determined to stay on track during this time.
