The Legos donated to my classroom will be used by all grade levels from Kindergarten to fifth grade for our global projects in addition to the regular use in my kindergarten classroom. Our school has different tribes or communities of interest that all students get to select from each year. My tribe is learning about architecture from around the world. Students will research the history and geography of a renowned building. Afterwards, they will form an architectural team to recreate the structure. These structures will be displayed in our school with a brief report so other students, staff, and parents can learn about their creation.
LEGO engineering is a hands on, multidisciplinary, collaborative, authentic learning experience. On a day to day basis my kindergarteners will also be using the Lego bricks for writers workshop. Young writers struggle with deciding what to write about. The Legos will allow them to truly visulize what they intend to write before applying pencil to paper.
Students are more inclined to retain information by applying their knowledge with hands-on experiences. This is what I intend to do for our global learners with the Legos donated by your generosity.
