By using the combination locks to practice, our 5th graders will be able to prepare for the addition of lockers and locks to their daily lives. Combination locks are used on a daily basis to access lockers in middle school. The locks will be marked with their combination to unlock and they will be passed around to practice first then it will become a game and competition. This lesson will open dialogue for my soon to be middle school students about their questions about middle school. Currently, students are asked to purchase their own locks and practice over the summer but in a school setting we will be able to go over the instructions and tips and tricks as a whole group so they can all help each other. This will also offer as a buffer if any students are unable to purchase their own locks for next year.
