My 5th grade students are very curious about life. However, not all of them are avid readers. Treating someone who is different from you with kindness is not an easy topic to teach. My students are at the age where what their friends think really matters to them. I want my students to read Wonder for three reasons. First, I want to build reading stamina in my students. Second, I want my students to learn about empathy and compassion. Third, Wonder is being turned into a movie and I think that would be a fun culminating activity for all of us to enjoy together.
