Education is forever evolving and students tend to learn at their own pace. The Math curriculum that I teach in my classroom shows my students more than one way to work just one problem. After teaching the different ways in the lesson, my students have the opportunity to branch off and have a time that I call independent struggle time. This is the time where they break into groups and work as a group. Although this works for some kids with having a Student Teacher Leader, there are some students who need that one on one time with the teacher or perhaps extra time on a computer program that is based on the day's lesson. One program that I use is Zearn and my students absolutely love it. While they do get the opportunity to work on this program in Lab, this time is only two days a week out of a four day school week. My students would benefit more if they have the opportunity to get more time on this program.
With these new Chromebooks, my students will be able to have more one on one time and/or will allow them to work independently at their own pace.
Having the Chromebooks will also benefit those students who are at a higher learning level. It will give them the opportunity to advance in the lesson and/or module once they have mastered the material that is being taught or will be taught. My goal is to eventually have 5 Chromebooks so that I can have 5 students working independently, whether they are needing extra help or higher learners.
