I teach a 6:1:1 special education class in the Queens, NY, where each of my students brings their own personality, talents, and ways of learning. Some are nonverbal, some use communication supports, and all of them thrive when lessons are colorful, hands-on, and engaging. My students are curious, joyful, and determined—they inspire me every day with the effort they put into learning new skills.
They love routines, visuals, and celebrating their progress, whether it’s completing a math activity, reading sight words, or working together on a class project. When given the right tools, they light up with pride and confidence. What makes my students so special is how they cheer each other on and grow stronger as a community, one success at a time.
