These books will make a huge difference to my students. First, I will be able to use "Monster" by Walter Dean Myers as a literature circle book in the upcoming year. I will also be able to finally implement a robust independent reading program for my scholars during my enrichment and intervention periods using texts that are culturally relevant such as popular books by Kwame Alexander. Another popular, high interest book is "The Hate U Give," which I'm excited to bring to scholars. The Scope magazine subscription will provide high quality non-fiction reading so that my students can make connections to what they are learning in class.
