All types of readers visit our library. Some of my students visit every single day looking for a new book to read, and other students say they do not like to read because nothing 鈥渓ooks good.鈥 I believe that nonreaders are just readers who have not found the right book! Every student deserves the chance to connect with literature and the opportunity to find the perfect book for them.
While we often hear the adage, 鈥淒on鈥檛 judge a book by its cover,鈥 children do just that. They are most intrigued by books that are new and not falling apart. I call our books well-loved 鈥淰elveteen Rabbits,鈥 and I try to repair them when I am able, but we need new books to engage all of our readers and provide them all with new adventures and broader worlds to explore.
This project and your much-needed donations will purchase 30 new books from Junior Library Guild, a subscription service that will send us new books every month during the subscription to help engage our students and build excitement about books and reading throughout the school year. I plan to do book talks each month spotlighting our new books and to ensure their eager circulation by students. Please do not miss this chance to give the gift of reading!
