My school is a culturally diverse, inner city school. My students come from backgrounds full of challenges and adversity, but they come every day expecting their circumstances to improve. Because my school is one which services a low-income community, we don't have resources readily available. It is often difficult to make sure the students have the necessary supplies, much less anything beyond that. The school my students and I call "Ours" is undergoing many changes which are improving the culture and effectiveness. Although there have been struggles, the students are kind, they are smart, and they know they haven't always been given the best of things. They deserve to feel good about who and where they are.
