Students in my English classes are often reluctant readers. They have struggled with typical "class" texts in the past, which makes them unlikely to choose to read independently for fun. As a new teacher, I struggle to provide them with many options in my classroom because of my personal finances. I want to have convenient access to a wide variety of books to advertise to kids and to put in their hands.
I want to provide diverse, accessible books to my students to encourage them to become life-long readers. I truly believe that every student can find something that they enjoy to read if they are given options.
The books chosen for this project represent many aspects of diversity. They will prove students mirrors and windows to see themselves in literature, as well as opening their eyes to new perspectives. This is one of the most valuable aspects of reading.
