My students are a vibrant group of 6 and 7 year olds. They enter my classroom smiling and happy each day, and I want to provide them with as many authentic and engaging materials and experiences in school as I can. Most of my students are English Language Learners, meaning that they are learning English and school is often the only place they are exposed to English. They are eager to grow and learn every day.
My students are an integral part of a school community that, until recently, was considered one of the lowest performing in the state and designated a "turnaround" school by the city of Boston. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of my colleagues, parents, and the students themselves, the "turnaround" status was removed and we have seen incredible student success. However, the removal of this status has meant a decrease in available resources for our students in school.
