I am requesting a few basic laboratory supplies to help my students be successful not only in this course but in their potential future careers. We need a Mini Centrifuge, a Microtube Rack, centrifuge tubes and other biotechnology equipment. It is important that students have reliable equipment to learn with, and that is where generous donors can help! Our school is over 30 years old, and the equipment we have now to use in Biotechnology is not current with the quickly changing industry.
Laboratory skills learned in our Biotechnology course are transferable to both college and career. Having these critical supplies will help my students learn these skills and how to use them effectively in class every day.
Biotechnology operates on a micro-scale, I am requesting a class set of laboratory micro pipets so that students are able to take small samples for analysis. Each time a student moves a sample or reagent, they need a clean and sterile micropipet tip to prevent decontamination. This is an industry standard that teaches an important skill for students to learn, so having an ample supply of tips is crucial. Microtubes are where students store their samples for further study in between class periods, and students use microtube racks to hold the small tubes while they are not in use. A microcentrifuge makes it more convenient for students to mix reagents and samples together.
