As the only physical education teacher in a high poverty, Hispanic and African American neighborhood school in Chicago, I strive to make P.E. class a place where students feel welcome and enjoy themselves while moving. The kindergarten through 8th grade students that I work with everyday are ambitious, motivated and will excel even further in an inviting, engaging environment. Research has proven that physical activity can help improve students academic performance and my school is in need of more equipment to help motivate my students to lead a well balanced, healthy and active lifestyle. Any additional resources that we earn are put to good use and will benefit my students by giving them the opportunity to be physically active in a variety of ways. My goal is to guide my students into developing a love for physical activity and bring more fun and excitement into my class.
