I am a seven year teacher who currently teaches in South Central Los Angeles to 29 second graders.
My students:
Most of my students are from the community and attend our Title 1 charter school. They are all Black and Latino students who are eager to come to school everyday. They are resourceful, independent, empathetic, and hard-working students that show a lot of grit in order to meet their character and academic goals.
Our classroom:
In the morning, you are greeted by me after students knock on my door. I have my students knock in order for them to realize that they are entering our classroom home. We have a Harry Potter themed classroom with a growing library. Throughout the day, we decide as a community what we need and want in order to increase student voice.
