I am a second-year teacher. The books in my classroom are old and hand-me-downs. I would like to have books in my library that are a better illustration of my classroom community. I have selected books that I will use to teach students about picking books they will enjoy. They will understand that reading can be fun.
I have found that reluctant readers are more receptive to reading when reading about something that interests them. I have selected books and authors that I am confident will be relevant and interesting to my students. Elizabeth Acevedo, for example, writes stories that my students can create connections.
