Strong fine motor skills are an essential foundation for children who will be expected to write, cut, draw, and manipulate materials in the very near future. In order to engage students in these somewhat difficult tasks at the young age of 4, it is necessary to make the learning opportunities available as fun & as novel as possible.
In order to promote the use of our students' fine motor muscles, we will offer wood-working as a small group activity! Each student will receive their own pine plaque to paint. After allowing their paint to dry, they will then have access to a hammer, nails and a variety of collage materials like buttons, sequins and fabric flowers to attach to their wood. While learning about safety, self-control, planning, and project completion over time, students will also have the opportunity to improve their hand-eye-coordination, strength, and dexterity while creating a one-of-a-kind project.
