I teach nearly 120 tenth-graders at a high-needs school in the South Bronx. My students are resilient, creative people who want successful and stable lives, who dream of graduation and college. At our school, a tightly-knit community of around 500 Black and Latino/a students, students see their teachers as friends and mentors. Outside of class, my students are always around before school, during lunch, after school, and on the weekends because they want to learn more, to keep pushing themselves.
