This year I will be teaching 6th grade math for the first time! As a former 5th grade teacher, I have seen how much students struggle with math. I have seen many students become resistant to learning when the math concepts get too tough.
I've been brainstorming ideas on how to tackle these negative attitudes towards math. My answer: stories and games.
The first thought that came to mind was read alouds. Literacy is so important and my goal is to incorporate as many texts as possible to help teach the standards. Secondly, i would increase engagement through math games!
