My students come from a high poverty neighborhood where 100% of them receive free or reduced-price lunch and come from varied home structures. The community is diverse coming from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, with a large portion being Hispanic, Punjabi, and African American. Also, we have a large population of English Language Learners. With such a diverse community it is expected to have a wide range of personal, social, emotional and educational needs when compared to schools that serve a more unvarying population. However, my students do not let this affect them. My 2nd graders come to school eager and excited to learn. I strive to create an environment that fosters that love of learning and encouages them to want to learn more. I believe every student can be reached and taught with the right tools and attitude.
