Each of my Basic Physics students will construct and launch a model rocket in order to reinforce their understanding of Newton's Laws of Motion. It will also be cross-curricular as students will be using algebraic skills to determine the altitude of the rockets as well as the velocity. They'll also be writing to explain.
Most of all, this hands-on project will allow my students to develop greater self-confidence and feel a sense of accomplishment. It's amazing to watch them construct the model kits, personalize them with decorations and names, launch them and then have that A-ha! moment when they understand what they are observing at that moment.
