My project consists of basic school supplies for my students and some items to ensure an organized classroom. I am a first year teacher working in an urban environment. I chose items for my project that will assist my students in being the best students they can be.
For example, the many pencils and highlighters will allow students to write down their thoughts when they learn about context clues in the third grade English Language Arts curriculum and highlight key details when they learn the importance of the main idea and key details. The dry erase markers and rulers will be used during our math lessons. I often have students come up to the board and explain their thinking on the whiteboard using a dry erase marker. That way, students can see how their peers are solving problems and I can see where any misconceptions might lie. The rulers allow for hands-on learning when students create rectangles and squares to master calculating area and perimeter. An example of an item that will aide with the organization in the classroom is the 30 slot mailbox. With this, I can pass out individualized work and feedback to each student.
With all of the necessary school supplies and an organized classroom, my students will not only be able to exceed in third grade but in their years beyond.
