In order to help our students be college and career ready we need to help them develop critical thinking and collaborative skills that promote 21st century thinking. Our project consists of supplies that are necessary for my students to have a successful school year.
Our students are in need of materials to support interactive collaborative classrooms to increase cooperative academic discussion in an inviting environment. Every day my students waste so much time to ask around for supplies like pencils, dry board markers, and headphones. When checking for understanding our students use available resources such as their desk and Expo markers to show their answer, but we are running out of dry erase markers and erasers. Writing on the desk allows multiple people to see the thinking of one student and ask questions and build onto the original idea.
We have purchased an abundant amount of earbuds for our students. We have even tried to keep them in the classroom in their own bags. Unfortunately, we can't continue to afford to repurchase headphones for the entire fifth grade. Currently, we have some amazing resources for students specific interventions. However, having 20 Chromebooks saying different things all at once isn't as effective. Headphones would help us be more successful and assist us in reaching our goals.
During the first half of this year, our students have gone through a huge amount of pencils. They also often take pencils home so they can complete homework and they don’t bring them back. We believe that a lack of a pencil shouldn’t prevent you from participating and learning so we will always provide them to students who need them.
