My students are wonderful, energetic, inquisitive bundles of love that show passionate curiosity and an unmitigated drive for success, in spite of the challenges many of them face. Nearly 100% of my students come from low-income, single-parent households and are eligible for free-or-reduced-price lunch. Because they deal with drugs, violence and death on a daily basis, my students come to school seeking safety, security and escape. I am not only trying to create a classroom environment where my students can feel safe and welcomed. I am trying to create a classroom environment where my students are exposed to positive role models and opportunities for advancement; a place where my students explore, evaluate and learn about the world around them through science.
