My students are resilient, creative, and full of potential. Nearly all come from low-income households, and many face daily challenges that make learning even harder. Despite this, they show up eager to grow, laugh, and succeed. They are ninth graders who deserve access to the same opportunities and resources as any other student, especially when it comes to books that reflect who they are. Many of them have never had a classroom library filled with characters who look like them, share their struggles, or dream their dreams. By providing diverse, engaging books, we can give them more than just stories—we can give them confidence, belonging, and the spark to see reading as a lifelong tool for growth.
