I teach Adapted Physical Education to students with special needs, in an impoverished area of Southern California. The students that I provide services for range from preschool to eighth grade, all with moderate to severe disabilities and are English language learners.
Many of my students come from large families with little income, providing only the basic necessities for them. Home for most of them is a rented room they share with their family in an apartment or house shared with other families.
Because of the severity of my students disabilities and their home setting, many of my students have little opportunity to participate in physical activity outside of their school setting to enhance their fitness level.
