Due to the global pandemic and returning to school face-to-face with many new safety protocols (including no sharing of supplies or toys), I want to maintain a positive and engaging learning environment for my kinderdoodles. I would like to supply each of my students with an individual set of Legos to use during various learning opportunities. Individual sets of Legos will help minimize the spreading of germs, can be easily sanitized on a daily basis, and are able to be packed up and sent home for use in the event we need to move forward with distance learning.
Legos provide learning opportunities disguised as play, which is crucial at this age. My kinderdoodles will use the Legos to develop their fine motor skills, increase problem solving and mathematical thinking, enhance letter and sound knowledge, and serve as ideas for creative writing. Using Legos will also help my students learn persistence, improve their communication and organizational skills, and help foster a sense of adventure. It is important to me, especially during these uncertain times, to keep kindergarten joyful, engaging and fun. Play is how kids at this age learn best and it belongs in our classroom. The kinderdoodles deserve it and would be so appreciative.
