Sensory materials provide stimulating, hands-on experiences to aid in growth and development within the classroom. Sensory toys, manipulatives for a multi-sensory approach to learning within the classroom. Our students are learning to sit during story time by using story puppets to sequence stories, and maintain their attention and focus. These puppets allow for students to follow the storyline, interact with the story and then create their own independently with faded prompts. Incorporating literacy by introducing letters and sounds this year within the classroom the students are developing their ability to recognize letters and sounds as well as develop their ability to communicate. Hands-on manipulatives motivate our students to use their words, request items and develop their awareness towards academic success while developing their social-emotional ability. Motivating reinforcers such as hands-on manipulatives and engaging alphabet materials help to aid in their language development and understanding of literacy development.
