Literacy in 3rd grade is both an essential and challenging skill to attain. Students in my class need to spend time building fluency, both within the classroom and independently. As first-year teacher this past year, I started the year without a classroom library and am now looking to develop one. I have managed to collect some second-hand books from local bookstores, but I believe my students would greatly benefit from more up-to-date and engaging books that are suitable for their level. In addition to the library, Teachers Pay Teachers has a collection of printable bundles that would allow me to assign my students homework to supplement their reading.
My students have limited resources at home so, a robust classroom library with new and exciting literature would create an environment that would greatly promote reading and literacy. Literacy is a common struggle for second-language learners and the guided reading bundle would help me assess and improve fluency in all learners. With your help, I can create a place that fosters independent interest in reading and supports fluency in emerging readers, while providing them with supplemental support at home.
