My students are in grades 6-8 and are part of a program called Scholastic Read180. This is a well-developed program that is designed to bring low level readers up to par. Most of my students come in to the sixth grade with only a first or second grade reading level. The classes, which are 90 minutes long, are set up with a computer software designed by Scholastic, workbooks, and independent reading selections. The goal is that the students reading level improves enough for them to "graduate" from the program and go back into their regular classroom. The environment is a fun, challenging, and at times competitive, as the students are competing with themselves to improve.
