My students are 4 year old thinkers in a blended Title 1 Pre-K, blended in that some of my students have a variety of special needs and some are ESL which means that English is their second language. What they share in common is a natural curiosity and eagerness to learn. My school is considered Title 1 because a large number of our school's population is at or below poverty level. Funds are scarce and there is no money to provide new items for our classrooms. As toys break over time and cannot be replenished, the opportunities for meaningful play dwindle. Providing opportunities for dramatic play is essential to these students.
