Bean bags, cushions, a rug, and clipboards will help to create a classroom library that feels welcoming for my students. In addition to providing comfortable spaces for my students to read, having these seating options in the classroom will make the space flexible. Additionally, these materials will extend their usefulness beyond my literacy block by providing options for my students to work during their science block. By having the option to select alternative seating, students will be able to make choices that empower them to be better learners.
Research suggests that a classroom that is comfortable and flexible promotes student learning and engagement. With these materials, my students will reap the benefits of improved focus and productivity. That is not a luxury. My students deserve to feel at home when they step foot in my classroom because often their lives outside of it don't feel much like the home we might envision.
