In kindergarten, having books read aloud daily is crucial to their literacy. In order to learn to read, young scholars must first understand the sounds and components of oral language before they can map those sounds these to written words. Hearing and seeing words read aloud helps build some of those foundational skills. Additionally, hearing stories that they relate to or can see themselves in, helps foster a connection and can really spark their love of reading. I want to be able to have a wide range of texts for my students to enjoy and connect to to launch their love of learning and literacy.
