My project will provide the opportunity of being comfortable while they read, but also give them options as to what they want to learn more about. Having the available resources such as novels, comfy chairs, fidgets and more exposure to literature such as graphic novels are compelling to students and the use of pictures helps guide reading comprehension but also will help with the language acquisition. In addition to their reading capabilities, they need to have a cozy relaxing area where they can eliminate any distractions and are able to learn at their pace.
The materials will help encourage the love for reading. Our ESL kids want to be able to read in another language. Not only are they reading at least 2 grades below level in both their native tongue and in English. They have little exposure to literature outside of the classroom. They all enjoy learning and I want to be able to help in every way possible. All children deserve to be giving the power of knowledge and the power of being able to READ!
We will like to use our fidgets to keep the students concentrating and continue to read. The bean bags will help provide our book area with comfortable seating. Our area rug will help make our book nook home like and comfy. The sink skirts will help us cover the old metal build in bookshelf that are in horrible conditions and Our books we need to continue building our library! Every penny counts!!
