Flexible seating options allow for students to choose tools to support themselves and their unique learning styles. My students are currently restricted to standard chairs and desks, which do not always meet their individual needs.
Having different seating options also creates a space that is accessible to all students and builds a bigger sense of belonging in our classroom. Allowing students a choice in where they sit motivates students to be more engaged in their work and less distracted by peers.
The items I have included in this project give my students some choices in where and how they sit, helping create an environment that is student centered and meets their needs. As an energetic bunch of middle school students, the stools and cushions will also allow students to choose seating that helps them release energy in ways that will help them stay focused. Having different options for seating gives them choice and agency in how to best support their own learning. The stadium seats will also allow for more options to sit around the classroom. Having clipboards will give them the ability to do their work around the different spots in the classroom without relying on a desk or tabletop.
Having flexible options for student seating will allow students to know their choices are valued and will help with meeting their individual learning needs!
