After completing Clark's MAT year teaching first grade, I am now responsible for my own classroom! I will be teaching second grade, continuing my journey as an educator. As a first year teacher, it can be difficult to afford everything necessary to build a classroom. Especially as a teacher in a high needs area, there is often a lack of funding for materials.
With these basics, I can give students some of the materials necessary for a successful school year! I am asking for essentials such as pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc. I want to welcome students into a classroom community that is stocked and ready to support learning! I am also requesting headphones so that students can listen to books on tape as a reading center in my room. Allowing students to listen to books as they read, enriches students' experiences with books and promotes a love for reading. My students need dry erase boards to practice their writing and spelling. We need notebooks so that my students can maintain conversation journals as a low-stakes way to work on writing. Lastly, I am asking for tablets so that students have the opportunity to use technology in the classroom. Tablets help to support independent practice, such as using Xtra math, during our math block. Students also love accessing books on the tablets and playing literacy games. Students are always eager and excited to play these games and they are learning too! I hope that I can provide my students with the necessities for a successful school year as well as the technology to give them access to resources beyond what is available through my school building.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and my students on this exciting journey!
