Hello and thank you for your interest in my project.
Every year during my 3rd grade class, we read the book The One Hundred Penny Box. My desire is to educate OUR students of today about the culture and importance of extended family. The protagonist is a young African American male living on the same household as his 100 year old great, great aunt. She has introduced him to the Victrola and vinyl records. This is such a wonderful book and the students enjoy it immensely, but I never have enough copies to let each child have a book in their hands. We usually listen to it on YouTube once, and I read it aloud to the students once. I know that with an additional 30 copies of this book, I would be able to get better results with the children. There is nothing like holding an actual book in your hands and following along with the words to ensure they are really understanding the content.
