In math class, students often wonder "why does this matter?" and "how does this relate to me?" They really want to know why the math is important and they want to have fun! Using the motion sensors, my students will have the opportunity to engage with the mathematics in an active learning environment.
With the Go!Motion detectors, the students will be able to graph their walking motion and analyze how their rate of change affects their graph. They actually get the chance to act out the mathematics. The limits of the Go!Motion detectors are endless, but I envision using them to introduce my 8th grade math students to linear functions and rate of change. My Algebra I students will analyze how their rate of change varies among different types of functions, such as linear, quadratic, and exponential.
