My students are a very diverse group of fifth graders. Many of them live in homeless shelters or are in poverty. They deal with daily struggles that no 10 year old should have to go through. When my students come to school, they have a structured day, food to eat, and receive nurture from adults in the building. For some of my students, school is the only place where they feel safe. I strive to create a classroom that is comfortable and inviting. The majority of my students are below grade level academically and socially. It will be a great day when my students can worry about their school work before anything else going on around them.
